Maintenance: Correctly adjusting the slip clutch

The petWALK pet door is an investment in your pet's quality of life. For it to function reliably and safely for many years, a little regular maintenance is crucial. A central element here is the slip clutch.

In this tutorial, we show you how you can perform the inspection and maintenance of your pet door yourself in just a few steps.

What is the slip clutch?

The slip clutch is the mechanical link between the motor and the door leaf. It acts as an additional, mechanical anti-pinch protection. If it is correctly adjusted, it immediately interrupts power transmission when an obstacle is encountered – ensuring your pet's safety at all times.

Why is an inspection important?

Similar to car brakes, the slip clutch is a wear part. Due to daily use or an opening angle set too wide, it can loosen over time. Possible signs of this are:

  • The door leaf no longer reaches its usual opening angle.
  • The display shows the error message E03.
  • The door does not stop immediately when encountering an obstacle.

The 2-minute safety check

We recommend performing this simple test at least once a year (e.g., as part of spring cleaning):

  1. Test obstacle: Hold a cushion or soft object in the opened door.
  2. Close command: Give the command to close via remote control or app.
  3. Check reaction: The pet door should stop immediately upon hitting resistance and retract a little. If it continues to close with force instead, the clutch needs to be readjusted.

Step by step: How to readjust

If the inspection shows that the clutch is too loose, you can easily fix this yourself:

  • Safety first: Be sure to disconnect your petWALK pet door from the power supply.
  • Tools: You only need a 13mm hex wrench.
  • Tighten: Carefully tighten the hexagonal nut (on the inside, above the door leaf) clockwise.
  • Check: Restore the power connection and repeat the safety check.

Setting the opening angle correctly

To protect the slip clutch in the long term, the door leaf should not hit the frame when opening.

Well-adjusted technology protects the mechanics and provides a sense of security. If you are unsure or need help with the adjustment, our personal support team is happy to assist you.
