Energy Efficiency & Thermal Properties

petWALK Comfortable warmthThe petWALK petdoor is designed in accordance with the building physics standards of modern passive house and energy-saving windows. It allows free access for pets without compromising the building's thermal envelope. Thanks to the combination of a highly insulated composite material, a double silicone seal, and certified driving rain resistance, the energy balance of the home remains completely intact.

Key Technical Features and Building Physics Benefits

1. Thermal Insulation, Frame Structure, and Over-Insulation

The casing is manufactured from rigid polyurethane integral foam, which combines very low thermal conductivity (0.08 W/mK according to DIN 53 432) with high structural stability. All hollow spaces are additionally lined with molded rigid PU foam elements (thermal conductivity of 0.028 W/mK). This seamless, monolithic design without joined seams results in a calculated thermal transmittance (U-value) of 0.811 W/(m²K) for the entire system.

When installed in a solid wall, this thermal quality can be further optimized: the building insulation can be extended directly over the outer frame of the petWALK petdoor to create an insulated reveal. As a result, the component is integrated seamlessly into the facade insulation completely free of thermal bridges.

(Manufacturing note: Due to the open-cell structure of the foam, fine air pockets may occur on the surface. This is inherent to the manufacturing process and has no impact on thermal performance or durability.)

2. Airtightness Class and Air Permeability

To completely prevent convective heat losses caused by drafts, petWALK utilizes a two-stage, continuous silicone sealing system.

  • Air permeability (EN 12207): In the testing standard for windows and doors, the highest level, Class 4 (requirement: Q100 = 0.75 m³/hm), is achieved. The measured test value at a pressure of 600 Pa is Q600 = 0.0 m³/hm.
  • Resistance to driving rain (EN 12208): The system is certified according to Class E1050. It remains completely watertight against water penetration, even under high wind pressure and severe weather conditions.

3. Condensation Safety and Mold Prevention

For all recommended installation methods, the minimum surface temperature of the interior component surfaces, according to ÖNORM B8110-2 with a temperature factor > 0.71, remains reliably above the required threshold values. Consequently, no condensation and no risk of mold growth will occur.
