As a pet lover, you want to ensure that your petWALK door always functions optimally and provides your furry companions with the best access to the outdoors. Like any technical device, the petWALK door requires regular maintenance to stay in top shape. Here's how to properly maintain your door and what steps are important.
The best time for maintenance
While you're preparing your home for winter, don't forget to winterize your petWALK door as well. Although the door is generally easy to maintain, it's worth performing thorough maintenance once a year to ensure it functions optimally and lasts a long time.
Step-by-step optimal maintenance
Download the step-by-step guide here, including a practical checklist.
1. Lubricate door hinges properly
Nothing is more annoying than squeaky door hinges. Regular lubrication with the silicone grease included in the petWALK maintenance kit can prevent squeaking and dirt buildup. A few minutes of attention now can save you a lot of trouble later.
Take the silicone grease from the petWALK maintenance kit and use it to lubricate the sliding plate and door hinges.
2. Removing dust and dirt
Your petWALK door deserves to be as clean as the rest of your home. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove coarse dirt, then clean the door thoroughly with a slightly damp cloth. This keeps it not only visually appealing but also functional.
3. Visual inspection
Often, small things are simply overlooked over time. Therefore, we recommend taking the time once a year to examine the petWALK pet door more closely. These questions can help ensure that nothing is overlooked:
- Is the door leaf seated correctly?
- Is the decorative panel seated correctly?
- Is the silicone joint on the outside still adhering well?
- Are the seals on the door leaf still intact, or do they need to be replaced?
Take your time to inspect the door more closely. Check if the door leaf and the decorative panel are seated correctly, if the silicone joints are still intact, and if the seals are still sealing well. Small adjustments can help prevent bigger problems.
4. Checking the slip clutch with a test
To perform the test, hold a soft object (e.g., a cushion) in the open door and then close the door using the remote control to simulate a blocking object. The door should touch the blocking object and then open slightly again so that the object can be removed. In case of advanced wear, the door will also detect a malfunction of the slip clutch even without a manual test and display error E03.
How it works:
If the error message E03 is displayed on your petWALK pet door, it indicates that the slip clutch is no longer optimally adjusted.

Cause of error:
E3 is displayed when the door cannot close, but the slip clutch is already so loose due to age-related wear that it can no longer stop the opening motor. If this is the case, an error message is displayed regularly, and the door is blocked.
The slip clutch is an additional safety device during operation to prevent pinching even if the electronics are defective. Over time, it can loosen due to normal wear. Caution! This poses a safety risk, as the door can no longer stop if something gets trapped. However, the slipping of the clutch accelerates the wear process, which can cause the clutch to start slipping even during normal operation and eventually stop closing. In this case, we recommend having the petWALK pet door serviced. Information on this can be found on our homepage. In the chapter "Frequently Asked Questions," you will also find further information on adjusting the slip clutch and under what conditions you can do this.
Error resolution:
If the door is still open, you must remove the obstacle. If the door is already closed again, you should check what might have prevented the pet door from closing to avoid this in the future. Then confirm the error message with the OK button on your remote control. This will make the error message disappear from the display.

5. Door rattling? Here's why!
If the petWALK door makes a rattling noise and displays error message E01 when opening or closing, it is a mechanical cause due to strong temperature changes. Due to the temperature, the metal can move and lead to too much contact pressure on the door leaf, which means the bolts can no longer close smoothly.
The error messages can be corrected by simply retightening the locking bolts. Here's how:
Symptom:
When locking and unlocking the locking bolts, a rattling sound is heard. The door does not open and shows the error "E01".
Cause of error:
The contact pressure of the locking bolts may be too high.
Error resolution:
petWALK pet doors have adjustable locking bolts that allow you to individually adjust the contact pressure. Download the instructions or follow the instructions below:
The contact pressure is ideal when the closed and locked door leaf can still be pressed very lightly against the seals, i.e., when there is still a little play.
If the bolts are set too tightly, the locking drive may no longer be able to open or close the door leaf. This is noticeable when the drive "rattles" or the door does not open and the message "E01" appears in the display.
You can easily adjust the contact pressure by eccentrically turning the bolts with a Torx key size 15. The door closes easier if the flattened side of the disc points inwards and tighter if it points outwards.
